[Introducing the bearer, Mr. Thompson, a partner in the Iron Trade. As arbitrator, Mr. Thompson has chosen "Mr. Telford of Shrewsbury, a gentleman of honor & character & perfectly well qualified to undertake the business, & who I understand is well acquainted with Mr. Watt." Mr. Keyte has chosen a Mr. Bateman of Birmingham, the patent mangle maker [1801 Directory—"Bateman, Thomas. Builder and Land-surveyor, Duddeston-row."] whom he is sorry to say cannot be placed in competition with Mr. Telford. The arbitrators not agreeing Mr. [Benjamin] Wyatt of Sutton [Coldfield] is chosen umpire, but not knowing Mr. Telford, he may refuse to act. Requests Mr. Boulton to persuade Mr. Wyatt to act.]
