Description[I yesterday attended the Commercial Committee respecting a Bill now before Parliament, from Sheffield praying for leave to mark their names upon plated goods and for altering the prices for assaying silver goods: but they do not even mention Birmingham in the Bill. It was concluded for Mr. Garbett to write to our Members to endeavour to stop the Bill unless they would add the town of Birmingham to it, but even then it would be disagreeable in its present form and we desired it might be put off until another Session that there might be time to consider and improve it, and to present it upon a more liberal and extensive plan. Mr. Hodges says he hopes to send you a Lamp in a few days, but their business is so my retarded while Mr. Hargon [Argand] was here, or one would have been ready at this time.]
