Description"Scale on gilding."
[I have examined our old calculations and find that Gilding costs about—Plain Plinths or Necks, common yellow or red, 2d. per in. workmanship included. Frames, including Dead Mouldings, or such as Ice Pails &c. 4d. per in. Figures such as Titus 8d. per in. Bradbury’s price was 8s. per dwt. and we charged him 4/6 for Gold he finding materials. The Gold allowed for a Titus figure is 10 dwts, and it commonly wants mending besides: it is 12 in. high and about 10 or 11 in. circumference; say 120 in. for 4/- or 960d. divided by 120 in. is just 8d. per in. Their present rule for profit, is to double the workmanship and add 25% upon the cost of gold and gilding.]
[Note by M. B. "Rehe says his work costs about 6d. per in."]
