Description(2 pcs.)
[The Crossing Machines were sent to Mr. Matthews on the 17th inst: Mr. Walker says [James] Wiss and Settle had each about 5% douceur and Mr. Rehe says Baumgartner had 5% also but he is not here this time to receive it: on examining the Books I find 15% was deducted on the whole but still it was a good trade for on laying out £137 there will be a clear gain of £160: if the quantity had not been so few the profit would have been much better. You desired me to give the enclosed advertisement to Mr. Garbett, but you forgot to enclose it: Mr. Watt gave him the papers respecting the Copper Co. Your best plated customer, AIX, is now here and has ordered 6 Tureenes, 20 Dishes and 80 plates, besides other things. I have been over Mr. Keir’s Works with him and Mr. Rehe: he said they have made 5 tons of Red Lead per week for months together and a deal of White Lead, and have a vast number of Boilers for making the Alkali: they burn 9 tons of Coal per day.]
