I recvd. yours to day, am glad you are tired of London that you may relish Soho ye better I have only time to say a few words upon this days going of ye Engine
500 Strokes p[er] hour as pr Clock counter
1... 1 C of Coals brought ye water to boyl & Engine to work
2d.. 1 C of Do burnt in 50 minutes
3d.. 1 C Do burnt in 80 minute
9 to 12 Inches high ye mercury in ye Gage
68 of heat coming in Water
80 going out water-only 12 gaind.
no leaks; ye piston & valve good; the piston cant leave ye papier behind as its inclosed in
Hat & Iron weight lying upon it
I think we must contrive to have all the Cold Water raisd out of the mine pass through the Condensor for I believe the present imperftn: arises chiefly from want of more Cold. Upon reflection I think the stamping of thin Plates as you proposed wd make good Condensors thus [There follows a thumbnail sketch of a scallop pattern].
