Dear Sir
Yours of yesterday received, I shall observe your directions about the Clocks &c-I have been with Mr C. about them already. I was at the Sollicitors Office to day they had neglected to give him the second summons, & I find that nothing will be got done with him at this turn so shall not delay any longer about him. I hope to be clear to come away by Wednesday or thursday. I am heartily sick of this town & fort ennuyéz since you left it.
Doctor Roebuck is likely to gett an order, out of Smeatons hands, for an engine in Yorkshire that according to his Ss. caln: will burn £1200 pr annm: in coals but it has had one bad effect it has made the Dr . . . of his bargain & wish again to be upon the 1/10 but we must see to keep him right if possible so dont vex yourself about it.
In relation to the Soho engine, I conceive that the piston descends & leaves the paper a little behind it, which must be prevented by Screwing down four Springing pieces of Iron upon it thus [There follows a sketch.] Has Joseph fitted in the Leaden Cores to the Condenser Pipes to accelerate the velocity of the water-I am much mortified with th[e] bad performance Please examine whet[her] the regulator walve be tight, & if all the join[ts] of the bottom &c are tight
I have nothing further to add but that I ever remain with Respects to Mrs B
Your's James Watt
