| Description | Glasgow Decr 12th 1768 Dear Sir I have packt up for you & sent by way of Carron & London 1 Doz German flutes-at 5/ a Copper digester at £1-10 the digester has one side a place with 3 holes in its lid one for the thermometer one for a Gage pipe (the lower end of which is to be placed in a Cistern of Mercury) & a safety valve the steelyard & weight for the valve are along with . . . the thermometer may be made tight by wrapping a bit of paper about the neck of it & thrusting tight into the hole from the Inside I have sent in the same box some docimastic pipes for Doctor Small also a piece petuntse & a lump of Impure Kaolin which is excellent for stopping the pipes with as it does not fly tho thrust into the fire quite wett I have not Gott the furnace made for you but shall soon I have almost finished a most Compleat Model of my Reciprocating engine When it is tryed I shall advise the success Mean While I am With Cos to Doctor Small, Your's Sincerely James Watt 1-10-0 3- 0
