DescriptionHond. Uncle

I am much obligd by your esteem'd Letter, the Contents of which have attended to; at present have not recd any Accot. of the Arrival of those Gentn. you mention'd; farther than from a Circumstance which happen'd at the time Mr. Wyatt recd yr Letter, another was deliv'd him requesting admission to the Mill, & I understood Mr. Frere Junr. was left at home to deny their request;-the Porter afterwards inform'd me Mr. Frere Conducted Two Gentn. thro'. the Mill, & said they were Spaniards; but on Examining the File where the Orders for Admission are kept; it Express'd a desire for the admission of Mr. Tolkernit & a Mr. Nicoloricus, Prussian Gentn recommended by Alderman Anderson, of Charter House Sqre, the only Foreigner since has been Prince Galitzin recommended by a Gentn. @ the Navy Office. If any persons of that description Come to the Mill you may depend on the Earliest Information. I must beg leave to return my most grateful Acknowledgments for the unmerited kindness conferd on me when you was last in Town at at Time I expected & indeed deservd reproof; However hope in future my Conduct will be such in whatever Situation I may be such as may in some degree deserve your Friendship.

I have Endeavor'd to fill Mr. Browns place since he left, & have delivd in the Statement of their Affairs twice, & believe my part of the Business has given Satisfaction, & wou'd every other had turn'd out to the Coy Expectations, the Loss Shewn on the first Statemt. the Stock being apprais'd at what it is now worth appear'd near 5000£, this amaz'd me who had every reason to believe from The Certain Profits, on the Wheat Pease & Beans sold Turnbull, together with the Profit on Coals and American Wheat, it wou'd be a very good Quarter (those Profits Amot. to 2000£ & upwards) & the greatest Quantity of Flour being sold at a very high Price, & the Sales of this Quarter being 1/3 more than any other. The only feasible Reason was from the Stock last Quarter being apprais'd much higher than what it really Cost; therefore I averagd the price of Wheat for the whole Quarter, & cha'd the whole Stock at that price, which has made the diffce. which appears in the Present Accounts. The Remainder of that Loss is from having bought large Quantities of Wheat at a Rising Market prior to the beginning of this Quarter. The Company seem determind to take Stock themselves, & believe the Engin will be Stopt on the 29 Octr. and a Compleat Investign take place. Whenever that happens am afraid it will not appear so profitable as they seem to think. Hope I shall be enabled to be ready with my part of the Business, tho' at present we are all Masters; & to depend on the whole being Accurate am afraid I cannot, as the time is so Short shall not be able to Examine the Waste Book & Ledger thoroughly. It is an unfortunate Circumstance for me that both my late Employs have been in Such Business; which have prov'd unfortunate; & to be the Harbinger of Ill News to so good a friend was what delayd my Writing before, but I thought it right you Should be informd how Affairs went on that you might Act for the best. Hope the next time I may have the honor of writing it may be to convey more pleasing Intellig[ence] would that it laid in my power to alter this or better the future, that not being the Case will Endeavor at least to do justice to my Employer, & merit your good Opinion. Wishing you every good Success to you & family, I remain

Your Obligd Nephew
G Mynd
