Description(2 ff.)
(Filed under Colonel Garbett in error.)
My dear Friend,
I was so much indisposed yesterday that I could not attempt to read your papers till late in the evening, and then was prevented from finishing by two persons who came on business. Dr. Beddows has been at Soho and agrees with Dr. Carmichael that all secretion of bile is interupted, and coincide in opineon as to my other complaints, which sink my spirits exceedingly.
I will thank you to order for me a small bottle of pure nitrous acid, say one or two ounces, double-distill'd and perfectly free from silver, as I am desired to take a few drops in half a pint of water-when I say double-distill'd I don't mean of double strength, for no matter if it is half water so that it is pure.
It shocks me to look over all the papers I have relative to your northern disputes, as I fear I shall never live to see that business finaly settled, particularly as it is evident that Hog grows peevish and prejudiced, and is biased by his passions more than by principles of candor and justice. I cannot help asking, what are you working for? and what are you fighting for? I think you would do well to sell your Carron shares, for I am perswaded the iron trade will not be so good the next ten years as it has been the last ten years.
It would have been well if Mr. Hog had never paid Glen & Hallifax a farthing untill all their account had been fairly adjusted.
1. I return you Mr. Hog's letter to you of March 9, 1802.
2. Mr. Barker's letter.
3. Relative to material inconsistencies of Mr. Hog.
4. Answers of Mr. Hog to the petitioner M. Boulton.
5. Replies for M. B. to the answers of W. Hog.
Some papers of your writing I will read to-morrow and return them.
Circumstances will not allow me to write more than that I remain, my dear friend, ever yours,
M. Boulton
