Description(Directed to Mrs. C. Matthews’, 13 London Street.)

Dear Friend,
In the packet which goes from your warehouse on Thursday I shall send:
Three printed copies of a letter Charles Gascoigne wrote to Francis Garbett in September 1766, as introductory to a partnership with him; the original of C. G.'s writing was exhibited to the Court of Session and remains in their register.
I shall also send three packets as under:
A. Relative to the conduct of Mr. Gascoigne and his trustee Mr. Anderson.
B. Samuel Garbett's printed Representations to Messrs. Boulton and Baxter, December 1785, and a printed letter wrote and sent therewith to our creditors by Mr. Nichols.
C. Memorandums by Samuel Garbett, June 1800, to lay before a committee of his creditors in Scotland.
I now wish a meeting of my creditors may be appointed by advertisement as late in this month as may be convenient to you with the approbation of Messrs. Nicholls & Nettleshipp, to whom I will on Friday next at farthest send my correspondence with Mr. Mackenzie upon what has passed with the committee at Edinburgh, and which I would send now if I did not wait for an answer I wrote to that gentleman on the 20th May and which he was to send me as soon as he had a consultation with counsel, and I have been expecting it every day for some time.
When the day of meeting is fixed I wish Messrs. Nicholls & Nettleshipp would immediately acquaint Mr. Mackenzie therewith, that we may have his opinion and advice, and the opinion and advice of the committee in Edinburgh as to what should be determined at the meeting.
From what passed when I had the pleasure of seeing you at the Lodge, I don't doubt you will think it proper to appoint a committee in London, and that if any difficulty should occur they should take the opinion of Mr. Romilly and allow him to vote as a member of the committee, though I earnestly beg he may not be desired or expected to attend but when a case is laid before him for his opinion.
God bless and protect you. I am ever gratefully and affectionately your friend,
Samuel Garbett
Remember me respectfully to Mrs. Matthews.
