Description(Docketed: ‘Samuel Garbett, July 1803, with copys of letters from Mr. Henderson, Mr. Selkrig, &c., &c.’ These copies are wanting.)

Dear Friend,
The enclosed is a very mortifying letter.
The commission of bankruptcy against me was in March 1782.
I never kept house in Scotland after 1772, nor did I ever enter the house of Charles Gascoigne after 1776. At Prestonpans Patrick Downey kept house and the house was his property. I slept there sometimes after 1776, tho' but seldom after 1776. After that period I slept at Carron Inn or at lodgings in Edinburgh.
I was glad to hear yesterday morning that you was not the worse for your kind visit to your old friend
