The contents of this file were formerly in a portfolio (169) entitled:

Within the portfolio, the documents were arranged in four chronological sequences, as follows:

Copies, J. (136-139)
Copies, K. (140-148)
Copies, L. (149-168)
The sets of Copies were each contained in a yellow paper wrapper (see 136 and 140 below). Under M. R. Boulton’s scheme of arrangement the file was placed in Box M. III.
The letter from George Augustus Lee, 13 May 1800, bears the annotation, "Afterwards with General Correspondence," which suggests that Lee’s letters prior to that date may formerly have been in a different place.
In the following list, the copy documents are all press-copies, unless stated otherwise; the summaries in quotation-marks are taken from the contemporary dockets.
