Dear Sir,
I have received a letter from Mrs. Vere since you left town, wherein she says she has seen a curricle and pair of horses that Mr. Lucas thinks extremely well worth the money asked, viz.
50 guineas for the horses
70 –—— for the curricle.
The curricle, tho’ not so superb a carriage as Lord Harbro’s, is nevertheless a very smart carriage, and the horses, he says, are in high condition and fit to take any journey: Mrs. Vere wished you to have gone down in the mail (if you had not quit this town) and drive yourself back in the curricle, as by that means Mr. Lucas wou’d have had the pleasure of your company, which he much wished. However, this arrangement is out of the question. But if you think any thing about the curricle and horses, give Mr. Lucas a line and he will do every thing in his power in the business.
I have just seen your father, who seems in good health and spirits and was going to celebrate your birthday (what an old fellow you are, thirty years of age) at Mr. Dumergue’s.
