| Description | "Purchase of a pipe of wine from Chollie. Necessity of keeping up a stock, to have good wine. My sister’s knee does not mend. Encloses a letter from her." Letter. Ann Boulton [London] to Charlotte Matthews [London]. ? 10 Dec. 1800. My dear Mrs. Matthews, I am glad to hear such an agreeable account of the Soho party, [Mrs. Matthews returned to London from Soho on 9 Dec.] a thousand times I have wished myself with you and believe my impatience to return has retarded my recovery. My plaguy knee has given me a great deal of pain lately. On Monday Mr. Cline desired to have consultation with Mr. Grant; they are to meet again on Saturday, so God knows when I shall get leave of absence. I almost despair of eating my Christmas dinner at Soho. Fearful of alarming my father, I have not yet informed him of this circumstance, but intend writing in a few days, when I hope to say I am better. I think Miss Fothergill’s doctor has too much good sense to allow his patient to travel in such horrible weather as this; if he suffers her to run away for some months to come, I shall have a very bad opinion of him. With kind love to Mrs. Vere, I remain much yours, A. Boulton Mr. Dumergue and ladies desire their compliments. I hope to see you on Friday evening; the party of ladies will consist of our own dear selves at Westminster. [Edited transcript.]
