| Description | The contents of this file were formerly contained in a portfolio (112), entitled: S to Z General Correspondents 1837 to - Under Matthew Robinson Boulton's arrangement the file was placed in the Study Safe, and it appears as No. 47 in the Inventory of the Safe made in 1841. The documents are arranged in four chronological sequences, as follows: Letters, S. (1-28) Letters, T. (29-64) Letters, U & V. (65-76) Letters, W. (77-111) The letters of Thomas Jones Wilkinson were added by the Assay Office to the file containing Matthew Boulton's correspondence with his uncles, John and William Wilkinson. It has been presumed that all these letters were removed from the present file, as they cover precisely the years 1837 to 1839, and they have therefore been replaced here; but as a number of them relate to the subject of the Liverpool Custom House it is possible that some (or all) of them came from the file entitled "Estate of the late William Wilkinson: Custom House, Liverpool; Flookborough." (See the Introduction to that file.) In the following List, the summaries in quotation-marks are taken from the contemporary dockets.
