TitleLetter. Pascoe Grenfell (London) to M. R. Boulton (Soho).
LevelItem
Date1 May 1805
Description"Has given directions for the quality of the sheets to be more attended to, and the sizes altered. Opinion of the attorney general about the legality of remelting copper coin. Inquiries after my father’s health and the rate at which we are coining. Opinion of the quantity of copper wanted for the circulation of this country." (In the hand of an amanuensis; signed by Grenfell. Franked at London, 1 May, in the name of P. Grenfell.) [When I consider that your 1900 tons of coin of 1797 is hourly disappearing, and the inadequacy of that quantity for the circulation of England only, I cannot but be of opinion that it will require at least 4000 tons for the circulation of the United Kingdom.]
