TitleCopy letter. Matthew Boulton (Soho) to Pascoe Grenfell [London].
LevelItem
Date19 January 1805
Description(2 ff.) (Press-copy of an original in William Cheshire’s hand, signed by Boulton.)
[The sheets you are now making are to be coined into pence, because Government is impatient to send a quantity to Ireland: I can coin nearly double the weight of pence that I can of halfpence in the same time. Until I receive instructions and power from Government I can form no judgement of the relative proportions of the three descriptions of pence to be coined: I conjecture that about half of the copper money coined is intended for Ireland. No doubt the whole of the pence remaining in circulation will soon disappear, but no one will be injured thereby, particularly if I am allowed to replace it with a greater quantity.]
