Boulton / M. P. W. / & / Brothers / & / Sisters 1829 / to
In the Inventory of M. R. Boulton's Study Safe compiled in 1842 it appears as No. 36, under the same title, though without the date.
The file contains letters written by Matthew Robinson Boulton's children. Most of them were addressed to M. R. Boulton himself, but there are three to Miss Mary Burgess, and one to Anne Robinson Boulton, which were evidently passed on to him by the recipients. By far the greater number of the letters were written by Matthew Piers Watt, the eldest son, but there are also letters from Anne Robinson (two), Katharine Elizabeth (one), and Montagu (eleven). There are no letters from Hugh William or Mary Anne. The seventh child, Lionel, died in 1830, aged four. Two of the letters (4 and 5) contain messages from schoolmasters.
The letters are arranged in chronological sequence. The summaries in quotation-marks are taken from the contemporary dockets. |
