| Description | "Detained in Scotland. His movements, and return through Leeds. Application of John Bennett for leave of absence." (Redirected to Tew Park.)
Glasgow 28 August 1826 My dear Sir The various occupations I have found here, will delay me beyond the time when you said you should leave home, and you must make the best provision you can for the management of the Money Concerns until my return. My niece's Marriage takes place tomorrow, and I shall proceed on Wednesday to Greenock & the Largs (Coast of Ayrshire), where by letter from Miss McGrigor this morning, I find that Mrs. Watt is much indisposed. Thence I shall shape my course to Carlisle, & Leeds, and meant also to have taken Halifax & Manchester, but in that I may be governed by circumstances. John Bennett has written to me for a fortnights leave of absence from the 30th. Instt., alleging that he has not been to see his friends for 7 Years, 7 that he has got up his work in the Counting house and can arrange so that his absence will not be felt. I shall refer him to You, if my letter reaches before you leave home, otherwise shall desire him to wait my return. Trade here is mending a little. Mr. Finlay thinks as fast as it might, or can be expected to do, solidly. With kind remembrance to Mrs. Boulton & Miss Wilkinson I am My dear Sir James Watt I expect the Glasgow Wr. Works Acct. will be paid upon receiving the charge for Wilkinson's time, for which I have written to Mr. Creighton. |
