| Description | The contents of this file were formerly in a portfolio (74) entitled: Agents / Private London / R. F. Davis / 1838 to In the Inventory of Matthew Robinson Boulton’s Study Safe, compiled in 1842, it appears as No. 21 under the same title, though without a date . Most of Davis’s letters were addressed to M. R. Boulton himself, but there are two addressed to Joseph Westley and one to Miss Mary Burgess, these three letters were evidently passed on by the recipients. Two letters to Boulton also contain letters to Miss Elizabeth Stockdale Wilkinson. There is also one exceptional item, a letter to Boulton from James Watt Jr. This was clearly filed here on purpose because its contents mainly concern Davis’s employment . The documents are arranged in chronological sequence. In the following List, the summaries in quotation-marks are taken from the contemporary dockets. Each document is a single piece unless otherwise stated. |
