| Description | "Expression of her thanks for the assistance afforded her professional education, and intention in regard to the pecuniary arrangements with Mrs. Walker." Edmund Street, July 28th. 1817. My dear Sir, My marriage having terminated, (as far as I am personally concerned) the pecuniary arrangements which were made after my father’s decease, I feel anxious to offer you my grateful acknowledgments for the kindness which influenced your conduct towards me at that period. In addition to the £30.– per annum appropriated to my use, it has, fortunately, been in my power, for some years past, to make my mother a further compensation for the expences incurred by her upon my account; and I shall never forget that I owe the accomplishment of this object to the professional advantages which you so liberally afforded to me. It may be proper to explain that my mother has regularly sent to Mr. Brown the half-yearly payments from the Government Annuity Office; and has, hitherto, received from him £11. 5. – per month; but, in future, she will, of course, draw only £8. 15. – Experience can alone determine whether this income will be adequate to her expenditure; but, should it prove otherwise, I have been enabled by your kindness to realize a sum which, I trust, will supply any deficiency, and which Mr. Barber has generously placed at my own disposal.— I have now only to request that you will pardon me for not addressing you upon the subject previously to the 1st. of this month; as I was, at that time, from home; and am ever, Dear Sir, Your obliged & sincere A. E. Barber.
