| Description | London Octr. 14—1766 My Dearest We arrived at the White Horse Yesterday about 3 o Clock. I immediately took a round to call upon a few friends & returnd to my Inn about 6 where I found Mr Motteuxs Clark waiting for me for had heard that I was in town upon wch. I went to Mr Motteuxs & stayd till after twelve & was thereby prevented the pleasure of writing to my Love wch. I hope she will pardon I rose this morning before 8 went to breakfast (with Mr Baskervill) at Mr Motteuxs we then went to Cantrells whom we found in Bed at 10 very poorly from there we went to Baumgartners & many other Friends we then turnd our faces to ye other end of ye Town calld at Mr Veres but found that neither Miss Fothergill nor Mr Vere were yet come to town we calld upon Mr Sayer & so on to Mr Jeffrys s were we refreshed our Selves wth. Chocolate & then took a further walk & calld upon many Friends but as I never loose sight of my Nanney I could not let slip the oppertunity of being at that end of ye Town without going to Mr Grosetts the first Lace Merchant in London where I have layd out Sixty five Guineas in a suit of Lace & as Mrs. Grosett seemd to be a Lady of tast I have desired she would send it to a Compleat Milliner & get it compleatly made up wch. is to be done by Thursday night. if I have faild in my tast you must take the will for the deed but I hope it will please & then I shall be happy—We returnd to Mr Jeffrys’s to dinner & stayd Tea there wth. old Mr Wyatt who is very well I am now returnd to my Inn it being about 9 where I shall close this day with praying for the health & Happiness of my dear Nanny ever remaining Her most Affectionate Husband Mattw: Boulton I cannot come home on Thursday but will say when in my next |
