| Description | Legal records such as patents, deeds etc. were kept in tin box AI as listed in Matthew Robinson Boulton’s catalogues. Most of the deeds listed in those catalogues are no longer in the collection. However the Rough Catalogue of circa 1820 records eight "patents in red boxes" – these were Matthew Boulton’s coining apparatus letters patent, five licences permitting him to make coins (often called coinage patents), and Henshall’s and Grove’s patents. These, along with a lease by Matthew Robinson Boulton of land to Thomas Allen, remained in the Matthew Boulton Papers. Henshall’s corkscrews were manufactured by Boulton at Soho Manufactory. He was presumably planning to do the same with Grove’s gun lock, but it is unclear whether he actually carried this into effect.
