| AdminHistory | The contents of this file were added to the Matthew Boulton Papers while they were in the custody of the Assay Office. They were evidently at one time with the rest of Sir Joseph Banks’s papers, and were probably purchased by the Assay Master at a public auction, though they do not appear to have formed part of the sale of Banks’s papers which took place at Sotheby's in 1929. (See under Sale Catalogues.) Most of the letters show signs of having been bound into volumes at one time, and all but three (1, 3, and 16) are marked with page-numbers on the recto (odd-numbered) pages only. These page numbers are as follows: 2 (pages 147-148), 4 (149-150), 5 (151-154), 6 (127-130), 7 (131-132), 8 (173-176), 9 (105-108), 10 (87-88), 11 (93-96), 12 (97-98), 13 (99-102), 14 (103-106), 15 (107-110). |
