Within the file the items were arranged in alphabetical order, in packets. Within the packets the documents were in chronological order according to the date of the docket, this being usually the date of payment; there are two exceptions to this rule, namely, bills docketed by William D. Brown (38, , which were placed in each case at the end of the sequence, having presumably been added to the bundle at a later date than the other bills, and the Kitchen Garden bills, which were grouped together. The original wrappers have now been removed and gathered together (230). |
