Description"Stevenson’s accident."
Soho, 16th: October 1816.
Sir,
I am much obliged to you for the information given in your Lre: of the 14th: instt: thro’ Mr: Cheshire of the lamentable accident which has befallen Mr: Stephenson, my Gardiner, & I trust to the continuance of your humane care of, & attention to him.—It appeared to me that the best service I could render him under the present circumstances was to desire a friend in Lpool to see him & provide him with every possible assistance. For this purpose I immediately addressed a Letter to the House of Mess: Whitehouse & Galan requesting the favour of those Gentlemen to take charge of him, which I doubt not they have done before this reaches you, & that aided by your exertions, they will have done all that the unfortunate nature of the case admits of.—I have not yet deemed prudent to acquaint his Wife with the circumstances, but have desired that she should be informed simply that he is detained in Lpool, still flattering myself with a hope of being early informed that his life at least is out of danger.—I am, Sir,
Your very Obet Hble Servant,
for M R Boulton
