LevelSeries
Date1888 -1903
DescriptionThe adult school at Bournville was initially made up of those members of Class V of Severn Street Adult School who worked in Bournville and preferred to attend a class near their place of work. The President was William Talliss. Early meetings were recorded as being held in Bournville, some at No. 1 Bournville, some at the house of Mr Talliss or George Talliss and the majority at unspecified locations in Bournville. From July 1892 meetings were recorded as being held at the Friends Institute, although it was not until January 1899 that they were recorded as being at the Friends Institute, Stirchley. The Institute had been constructed by John and Richard Cadbury in 1892 to cater for the growing numbers of adult school members in the area, and it was able to accomodate up to 500 people.
