| Description | After the first few months of 1940, membership at College Road Adult School and Institute, Saltley decreased rapidly as many of its members were evacuated, and subsequently heavy night time bombing put a stop to the holding of evening meetings. In November of that year, the district was heavily bombed and the Institute was severely damaged rendering the building unusable. With no funds to undertake repairs, and few members to merit the expense of renovation, it was decided to close the Adult School. The Institute was sold in January 1946 and proceeds from the sale were transferred to the College Road Charity (see MS 703/1/5/4).
Reports of some of the adult school work which took place at College Road Institute, Saltley can be found in MS 703/1/5/4/1/1. |
