TitleAdult Schools
LevelSub Collection
Date1867 - 2002
DescriptionOriginally known as First Day Schools because they took place on a Sunday morning (the first day of the week), or Early Morning Schools because the classes were at 7.30am, by 1913 there were 211 Men's Adult Schools and 77 Women's Adult Schools affiliated to the Midlands Adult School Union. This sub-collection contains the surviving records for a small proportion of the many Adult Schools which existed in Birmingham and the surrounding areas.

Brief histories of individual Adult Schools are given at series level where such information is known. Additional historical details of these and other Adult Schools for which we do not hold records can be found in copies of 'One and All' (see MS 703/4/4) and in the Midland Adult School Union annual reports (see MS 703/1/3).
