| Description | These deeds are for meeting houses, other properties and charitable trusts. Each Monthly Meeting's trustees would originally have been responsible for the deeds in each Monthly Meeting, but as Warwickshire South and Warwickshire Middle Monthly Meetings became part of Warwickshire Monthly Meeting, the deeds were transferred to Warwickshire North and later Warwickshire Monthly Meeting/Central England Area Meeting. Prior to coming to the Library of Birmingham they were stored together and for this reason they have been listed together here rather than under the series for their historic Monthly Meetings.
Many of the deeds were arranged into lettered bundles relating to a specific meeting house, other property or charitable gift or bequest . Where this was the case, each deed was numbered and listed in Warwickshire Monthly Meeting deed registers and stored in files in deed chests at Bull St. Meeting House. Every so often they were checked against the registers to ensure that they were all in place and this was recorded in the registers and minuted in the Monthly Meeting minutes. This original order has been retained, although the deeds have been repackaged into smaller bundles. Each entry gives the original bundle letter and the reference to the appropriate deed register, where known. To identify whether the deeds may be relevant, please request the deed registers listed in the description field for each entry as these list the contents of the deeds in some detail, and in many cases give transcriptions.
See SF/1/9/4/1, SF/2/1/1/10/4/15/3, SF/2/1/1/10/10/2 for a history of how trusts and property were acquired. Additional Warwickshire, Leicestershire and Staffordshire Quarterly Meeting trust and property registers can be found in SF/1/9. Minutes, accounts and other papers relating to trusts and property can be found in SF/2/1/1/10/4. See under Moseley Road Preparative Meeting SF/3/15 for deeds relating to Moseley Road Institute. |
