TitleYouth Committee
LevelSub Series
Date1943 - 1944
DescriptionIn July 1943, James Hudson spoke at Warwickshire North Monthly Meeting about Farm Street Meeting's concern relating to the problems of juvenile drinking of alcohol. As a result, the Monthly Meeting called for a committee to be established to investigate how young people could be provided with alternative ways of spending their leisure time. Members of the Youth Committee took part in the Burlington Hall Management Committee, a project with the Friends Relief Service and the Midland Adult School Union to establish a youth centre at Burlington Hall. They were also on the Temperance Sub-Committee of the Christian Social Council and supported projects such as the development of milk bars in the city and the civic British Restaurant, a restaurant managed by Birmingham City Council. In October 1944, it recommended that it should not be reappointed as it had been unable to put into practice the concerns of its members, and any likely work was already being undertaken by other committees already in existence.
