Supported by Quakers, this appeal was part of a wider appeal by the British and Foreign School Society to fund the printing of educational material based on the Bible in different languages so that it could be used in the increasing numbers of schools for poor children based on the British Lancastrian System which were being established in Europe and South America to teach reading and writing. |
