TitleBaddesley [Ensor] Monthly and Preparative Meeting minutes
LevelItem
Date1670 - 1870
DescriptionConsists of 2 volumes bound together. The larger volume goes up to 1720 and includes records of Monthly Meetings and Preparative Meetings, reflecting the less formalised structure of meetings in the early 17th century.

A smaller book of minutes and accounts has been bound in with the larger volume. The dates of the minutes and accounts do not run consecutively. There is a pencil annotation which provides information about the provenance of part of this volume, stating that William White, who was a key figure in the Monthly Meeting in the 19th century, purchased the minutes from a book shop in Birmingham in 1870. A further note suggests that only the minutes preceding the annotation would have been purchased by William White, as this section 'has clearly been cut out of the register at Somerset House' (where the General Register Office was previously based).

The volume mainly contains a record of collections and disbursements and births and marriages, with a few minutes and memoranda. The main business of the meeting focused on the care of the poor, the sick and the plight of Friends who were imprisoned in Warwick prison for their beliefs.
