| Description | It is unclear when this society was instituted, but its functions were broadly similar to the New Meeting and Church of the Messiah Sunday School Teachers Society (see UC 2/11/3/1), namely to consider all matters relating to the general management of the schools, the maintenance of regularity in the attendances of teachers and pupils, the care of the stationery, and the management of the library and other affiliated bodies. The surviving minute books give records of the Monthly and Quarterly Meetings of the society, in which the reports of the Superintendent of the Sunday Schools were considered.
The later minutes (see UC 1/11/3/1/3 onwards) include reports giving statistics of average attendance for teachers (including names); details relating to the appointment and dismissal of teachers; details relating to general teaching matters, subjects taught and the like; information on school excursions organised by the teachers; statistics of library books received and exchanged; some financial information and accounts relating to the provision of stationery, books, teachers' salaries, teachers' subscriptions and charitable funds; interleaved correspondence, printed reports and memoranda. There are some detailed reports charting the progress of certain outstanding pupils at the school who had received prizes. |
