| Description | The Old Meeting House Sunday Schools were founded in 1787. Like those of the New Meeting House (see UC 2/11), the church's Sunday Schools were highly organised, the Trustees, subscribers and teachers keeping detailed minutes of proceedings, appointing visitors to report on the progress of classes and keeping vigorous checks on attendance. There is a large amount of records surviving for the Old Meeting House Sunday Schools, including minutes of the subscribers, Sunday School Friendly Society and other committees, minutes of the Sunday Schools Teachers' Society, registers of teachers and pupils of the schools, and miscellaneous material relating to the schools. More general information about the history of the Old Meeting Sunday Schools can be found in the Administrative History of catalogue record UC 1. |
