| Description | The pages of the volume are divided in columns:births, baptisms, burials and the registration of miscellaneous matters. When recording a baptism it also gives the parents names, date of event, church and town where they were married (sometimes outside of Birmingham) and the names of the mother's parents, and occasionally occupations. As a result the register is an extremely useful family history resource, particularly for the years prior to the introduction of Civil Registration in 1837. It is also a useful source for looking at the history of migration into Birmingham, the first two entries detailing the marriage of one couple in Ireland, who later moved to Birmingham and joined the Old Meeting House congregation. There is a list of Trustees of the Old Meeting House dated July 1955 attached to the back pages. |
