| Title | Letter from Mr Bell, Gray's Inn, London to Mr Thomas Lee, Junior, attorney at Birmingham |
| Level | Item |
| Date | 24/09/1791 |
| Description | This letter answers the queries raised by Mr Thomas Lee, Junior in letter UC 2/15/9/4. Mr Bell explains that the trials have to be held in the county or hundred in which the rioting took place. This is because the evidence is collected from people in the area and not outside the area. He reassures the sufferers that new laws pressure even the partial juries to convict the rioters unlike the riots of earlier years. He goes on to explain that property removed from housing by rioters will be covered but damage to property removed for safekeeping will not. He encourages sufferers to diligently search for as many property deeds as they can. |
