| AdminHistory | The Civic Buildings Sub-Committee was appointed in May 1946, with responsibility for the land acquisition, planning, development and erection of civic buildings. The sub-committee was to liaise with the Finance Committee (see BCC/1/AG/7) over funding and costing and the Staff and Accommodation Sub-Committee (see BCC/1/AG/11) regarding general staffing and building issues. In October 1953, the sub-committee was renamed the Civic Development Sub-Committee, with the additional responsibility of receiving from other Council committees particulars of building and civil engineering work (except sewerage, water and housing) estimated to cost no less than £5000 each. A number of sub-sub-committees also reported to this sub-committee to consider matters relating to town planning and proposals for new civic buildings such as the Central Library and Exhibition Hall. Their minutes can be found in the combined sub-committee minutes volumes BCC/1/AG/37/1/22, 25 - 30 and 32. |
