AdminHistoryThe Superannuation Sub-Committee regulated and advised the main committee on matters to do with the Council superannuation scheme. The original scheme commenced in 1897, though the earliest minutes currently held date from July 1906. There were several amendments to the act, which resulted in the Birmingham Superannuation Amending (Consolidation) Scheme in 1908. The scheme provided a pensionable sum, and applied to all officers and servants (managers and workforce) of Birmingham Corporation over the age of 21, and under the age of 65. In November 1911, the sub-committee was renamed Superannuation and Compensations Committee when it took on the advisory role regarding the compensation to be paid to officers for loss of office (see BCC/1/AH/5 Compensation Sub-Committee minutes).
