AdminHistoryThe Finance Act of 1908 made provision for the collection by councils of local taxation licences. In Birmingham, this task was delegated to the Finance Committee, which, in turn, appointed the Local Taxation Licences Sub-Committee to appoint staff and co-ordinate the collection of licence money. Licences were issued at Money Order Offices for such requirements as armorial bearings, male servants, dogs, motor cycles, cars and carriages (Hackney and light locomotives). The sub-committee also reported on prosecutions in cases where licences were not obtained. In November 1942, this sub-committee was combined with the Accounts and Annuities Sub-Committee (see BCC/1/AH/7), the Priority of Expenditure Sub-Committee (see BCC 1/AH/12), the Rates Estimates Sub-Committee (see BCC/1/AH/13), to form the Accounts and Licenses Sub-Committee (see BCC/1/AH/14).
