| Description | The minutes are handwritten and signed by the committee chairman. The minutes are in uniformly titled minute volumes. Although this committee had a number of sub-committees that reported to it, Birmingham City Archives currently holds no records from them. The minutes include committee reports detailing the duties of the committee, its officials and the progress of rate collection across the city of Birmingham; lists of officials elected Collectors of Rates, the process of, and amendments to, the method of rating valuation in the city; lists of rents receivable for various streets and council wards; accounts and statements of income and expenditure; some general staffing information; and related correspondence and papers. Some of the minutes also detail petitions and protests at the unequal valuation implemented in certain parts of the city compared to the rest of the borough. |
