Date1922 - 1939
DescriptionMinutes indexed. The minutes are printed and signed by the committee chairman. The minute sequence continues that of the former Tenants and Estates Sub-Committee (see BCC/1/AM/11/1). The minutes are in the appropriately dated combined sub-committee minute volumes (see BCC/1/AM/26/1). The minutes include details of applications to erect temporary housing and accommodation (i.e. Type 'B' motor sheds); applications by tenants to keep pigeons in their homes; details on the disposal of keys for municipal property; details on the sale of municipal houses; notices to quit (including details of tenants who had absconded or who had been evicted); tenancy conditions regarding lodgers inhabiting municipal homes; and reports on individual households. The minutes are a particularly rich source in documenting the various means the Council used to ensure the tenants kept the houses and gardens in a desirable condition, from the organisation of gardening competitions on municipal estates to the regular visitations of Council inspectors and Women Health Visitors, occasionally aided by the reports of tenants on their neighbours.
