| Description | Minutes indexed. The minutes are printed and signed by the committee Chairman. The minutes are in the appropriately dated combined sub-committee minute volume (see BCC/1/AN/14). The minutes mainly comprise reports of the committee clerk regarding building works on new market site, such as lighting and heating, roofing, fire safety provision, and associated tenders and accounts. There is also similar information for other markets in the city, whilst the minutes of 20 October 1939 include a plan by Messrs. Martin & Martin & W.H. Ward for the New Toll Market, Jamaica Row (see minutes 23 - 24 in BCC/1/AN/9/1/1). The minutes of 31 October 1939 include some information relating to the blacking out of the Sales Hall and other market halls (see minute 29 in BCC/1/AN/9/1/1), with the minutes covering the war years (1939 - 1945) include a good deal of information about general emergency and wartime procedures implemented by the Markets and Fairs Department at this time. |
