| AdminHistory | The Arterial Roads Sub-Committee was appointed in March 1918 to advise the main committee on matters relating to the maintenance, improvement, and widening of the city’s arterial roads. A general Highways Sub-Committee was appointed at the same time to advise on similar matters for other city roads, although the minutes, in this instance, do not survive. Members of the Public Works Committee also sat on one or the other of these sub-committees. The Acquisitions of Properties Sub-Sub-Committee reported to this sub-committee, and was appointed in May 1923 to investigate the financial arrangements necessary to acquire property for the purposes of road widening schemes, and other similar projects (see BCC 1/AO/6/1/1). |
