| Description | Minutes indexed. The minutes are handwritten and printed and signed by the committee Chairman. Minutes BCC/1/BE/2/1/1 - 3 are in the appropriately titled minute volumes, numbered 1 - 4. Minutes BCC/1/BE/2/1/5 onwards are in the appropriately dated combined sub-committee minute volumes (see BCC/1/BE/10). The minutes include tenders and reports relating to the maintenance of streets and tramways; detailed information relating to fares; acquisition and disposal of motor vehicles; lists of departmental staff (with salaries) and other information relating to general staffing matters; and detailed accounts and statements of income and expenditure (including lists of stock and equipment purchased). There is also similar information to the minutes in the main committee on the impact of the Second World War and air raids on the work of the department (see BCC/1/BE/2/1/17 - 20). The minutes of the 1930s and 1940s include reports and petitions of local tenants associations and community groups concerning the high fares charged on various tram and bus routes from Birmingham's various out-of-town council estates such as Allen's Cross (see, for example, meeting of 8 July 1941, minute 5160, in BCC/1/BE/2/1/18). |
