| AdminHistory | The Tramways Sub-Committee was appointed in November 1899, prior to the formation of the main Tramways Committee. It comprised three members, including the Lord Mayor, and took on any business referred to it by the Council, which appeared mainly to be liaising with private companies regarding works on tramways, until the main Tramways Committee was formed in November 1900. In January 1903 the sub-committee was reconstituted, with a similar function, liaising over the actual tramlines themselves. Later, the sub-committee was required to consider accident claims, fares and all other financial matters of the Tramways Department, and report back to the main committee on these issues. The minutes themselves contain details of individual claims against the Corporation. In November 1905, the sub-committee was renamed the Tramways Works Sub-Committee. The sub-committee ceased in April 1960, having now been merged with the Finance Sub-Committee (see BCC/1/BE/3), to form the Finance and General Purpose Sub-Committee (see BCC/1/BE/8). |
