DescriptionMinute volumes alphabetically indexed. The minute books for the main Education Committee are printed and signed by the Chairman, and comprise a series of large green titled volumes. The volumes were originally accessioned under the reference MS 229. The minutes dated after 1974 are available in the Local Studies and History Department of Birmingham Central Library.

From 1937 the detailed reports of the School Medical Officer, later known as the School Health Service Reports of the Principal School Medical Officer are at back of the minute books (see minute volumes from BCC/1/BH/36), as well as the Hygiene Sub-Committee records (see BCC/1/BH/10/1). From 1943 the School Medical Officer Annual Reports were usually joined with the Special Schools After Care Sub-Committee Annual Reports (see minute volumes from BCC/1/BH/42 and BCC/1/BH/5/2 Special Schools After Care Sub-Committee minutes). From 1946 the Annual Reports of the Juvenile Employment and Welfare Sub-Committee are also included (see main committee minute volumes from BCC/1/BH/45 and the BCC/1/BH/14/1 Welfare Sub-Committee minutes).

As the Education Committee minute books largely comprise reports from the sub-committees and their respective sub-sub-committees, they provide an excellent introduction to the minutes and administrative business of the sub-committees themselves.

There are additional Education Committee minutes (without interleaved committee papers) in the former Local Studies Reference Collections on Floor 6, Central Library, dated 1991 onwards.
