DescriptionMinute volumes indexed and signed by the committee Chairman. The minutes are handwritten until October 1912, after which they were compiled in typescript format. The volumes were originally accessioned under the reference MS 462. The Hygiene Sub-Committee minute books contain details of the appointment of named School Medical Service and Dental Service staff; recommendations to the Education Committee with regard to salaries; reports from Assistant School Medical Officers on the conditions at named schools with statistics on cases of diseases such as scarlet fever and diphtheria; the approval of sums for treatments; the amounts of arrears for medical treatment and provision of spectacles (before treatment became free); the opening of new clinics; the different treatments offered; and the reports and resolutions of the Medical Treatment Sub-Committee and the Nursery Schools Sub-Committee to 1939.

From 1930 the reports from the Cottage Homes and Residential Schools Sub-Committee (see BCC/1/BH/5/5) and the Hostels and Boarding Out Sub-Committee (see BCC/1/BH/14/6) on the medical supervision of the children in their care are bound with the minutes as the powers of medical supervision were delegated by the Hygiene Sub-Committee to these sub-committees. The minutes do include occasional references to the names of children, their ages and brief details of ailments and medical or dental treatment required. From 1937 the detailed Annual Reports of the School Medical Officer, later known as the School Health Service Reports of the Principal School Medical Officer, are also included at the back of the Education Committee minute books (see BCC/1/BH/1/1/1/36 - 70).
