| AdminHistory | It is unclear when the Youth Festival Sub-Committee was appointed, but was constituted to organise the Birmingham Youth Festival, scheduled to take place during the 21 - 29 May 1970. The sub-committee liaised with the various involved in the organisation or participating in the festival; considered all financial arrangements relating to the organisation of the festival; considered all initiatives to publicise the festival, including press relations, advertising and the drawing up of brochures and programmes; and considered all details relating to the general proceedings, order of events and the booking of celebrity guests.
The sub-committee delegated most of this work to numerous sub-sub-committees such as the Chairman's Committee, the Advisory Group for Youth Festival, the Gala Ball Sub-Committee, the Press, Publicity and Finance Sub-Committee, the Pop, Variety and Town Hall Events Sub-Committee, the Youth Day Sub-Committee, the Standing Conference of National Voluntary Youth Organisations (SCNVYO) Sub-Committee, the Drama Sub-Committee, the Sports Groups Sub-Committee and the Lord Mayor's Procession Sub-Committee.
Events scheduled for the festival week included a Royal Visit, Lord Mayor's Procession, a procession of Birmingham's youth groups and organisations, a Youth Day in the Great Park, a pop and variety show with celebrity guests and demonstrations of sports and games entitled 'Explode 1971', as well as more general programmes of music, drama and other activities. |
