| Description | Minute volumes indexed and signed by the committee Chairman. The minutes are handwritten up to January 1918, after which they were compiled in typescript format. From May 1957 to May 1960 where the minutes for one year are split between two volumes the index only appears in the first volume. There are three minute volumes covering the years 1908 - 1916 which are currently missing (see BCC/1/BH/4/1/1/3 - 5; the volume numbers can be discerned as the next surviving minute volume, dated 1916 - 1918, is labelled 'Volume 6'.
The Sub-Committee minute books contain details of the duties of the sub-committee as detailed in description BCC/1/BH/4/1). Schedules of awards comprise the majority of content of the minute books from June 1966 onwards. The maintenance of named educational institutions is detailed and from 1952 progress reports by the City Architect on the educational building programmes within the sectors of primary, secondary and further education are included. From June 1953 the Technical Education and Evening Schools Sub-Committee becomes known as the Further Education Sub-Committee.
The minutes also show the appointment of minor sub-committees including the Staff Selection Sub-Committee and the Appointment of Awards Sub-Committee and a wide range of curriculum based Advisory Committees including those for Bread Making and Confectionery, Domestic Science, College of Commerce and Pharmacy. Printed booklets on developments in Further Education and other related areas by the Ministry of Education and other bodies are bound into many of the volumes. |
